Paste Streaming Buxton's Nothing Here Seems... →
In advance of the January 31st street date for Buxton’s Nothing Here Seems Strange, Paste Magazine is now streaming the whole dang album online. Go listen to it already! For another perspective on Nothing, check out All Music’s review, which describes “the members of Buxton as lonely space cowboys looking for meaning in a universe of country-tinged rock roots.”

Chris Gray Day starting NOW. →
Find all the details in the link above. Head down to the Continental Club block at Main & Alabama, drop (at least) 20 bucks in the jar, and peruse the cool stuff for auction whilst taking in stages of bands. Should the donations actually exceed Chris’s medical bills, the rest of the money will go to the Houston Blues Museum. DO IT!

A Sergio Christmas Thing
Days before Christmas, I happened to zip in to Cactus Music to nab a couple albums for my dad. Lo and behold, what should I chance upon finding at the counter but a limited edition Christmas album from Buxton’s Sergio Trevino, featuring appearances by Haley Barnes and Will Van Horn. I snagged it immediately, and let it delight my ears in the car for the rest of my shopping day. While...

Here and There and Back Again.
Posting’s been scant of late, thanks in part to some home renovations, the holidays, and some general busyness. Unfortunately, I’m just not able to devote the time I’d like to the site. Some new projects in the new year will be taking priority on my time, but rest assured that I’ll still be posting coverage of all things local music. There’s a few posts in the queue...

BOAWS: Weird Party - Honey Slides 7'' →
boaws: Yep, you folks get another one from Texas this week, this time from the Houston area in the form of the debut single from Weird Party out on Sex & Death Records. Containing former members of Fatal Flying Guilloteens and Sugar Shack, I’ve seen them described as some sort of super group…. Weird Party gets a nice little review for their excellent Honey Slides/Sarah Palin...

Galveston Brew Pub Looking To Book Bands →
Brews Brothers, Galveston’s new brew pub, has recently launched and seems to be pretty keen on supporting local music. If you’re band is looking to travel south a bit, play a show to some non-Houstonians, and drink some tasty beverages, look into it. For those islanders reading this, consider us a little jealous. Brews Brothers sounds like a nice addition.

Last Night: Dir En Grey at House of Blues - Rocks... →
For the record, I thought this band was boring as hell. Certainly one of the least intriguing acts I’ve seen of late. But it made for some good photos, and the internet has seemingly flipped their lids in the comments, if that’s interesting to you.

Dig This Vol. VII - Rocks Off →
Well, it seems that Young Girls is ending, like far too many good Houston acts do. Before that, they’ll open for Davila 666 on Saturday, though, so catch them while you can. (Edit: Pete Tijerina chimed up to inform us that Young Girls is not breaking up, but rather taking a break to record. Hooray! Sorry for any confusion.) The newest installment of Dig This features Western Standards,...
