Bun B day in Houston, TX

“I’d like to take this opportunity to tell the City Council that I am available 24-7/365 when it comes to the children of Houston as well as the surrounding cities and communities. Whenever the city needs me, I am more than willing and able to answer the call.”

Came across this photo of Bun B receiving his proclamation back in August. I just love his expression here.

Mayor Annise Parker and Houston’s City Council will declare Tuesday August 30th as Bun B Day in the City with a formal proclamation.

Today is Bun B Day! If you’d like to witness this proclamation firsthand, just show up to Houston’s City Hall this afternoon. Mayor Parker will declare the proclamation at 1:30 pm, so show up early.

Bun B, Deer Tick Come Aboard BestFest Lineup - Rocks Off

This one’s pretty simple. Like the link says, Bun B and Deer Tick have been confirmed for the Houston Press BestFest on September 24 and 25.

I’m not terribly surprised - remember that thing about a hot tip? But it certainly is nice to see everything worked out with these artists.

There’s no word on schedule yet, and the Press has promised to announce more artists soon. My guess is that Deer Tick and Buxton will wind up on the same day, though.

Bun B talks about his role as professor | 29-95.com

Part of the reason my posting was slow this week is that I did several interviews. Among them was this great chat with Bun B and Dr. Pinn, who are co-teaching a Religion & Hip-Hop course at Rice University this semester.

You may have seen a slightly condensed version of this in the print edition of this week’s 29-95. Unfortunately, due to some <strike>asshole</strike> copy editor, it was attributed to Andrew Dansby - a fine music journalist in his own right.

Anyway, check out the interview. It’s the first piece I’ve done for 29-95, with hopefully many more to come.

P.S. Here’s a photo I took of Bun B & Dr. Pinn.
