Paste Streaming Buxton's Nothing Here Seems Strange
In advance of the January 31st street date for Buxton’s Nothing Here Seems Strange, Paste Magazine is now streaming the whole dang album online. Go listen to it already!
For another perspective on Nothing, check out All Music’s review, which describes “the members of Buxton as lonely space cowboys looking for meaning in a universe of country-tinged rock roots.”
Make your day a little brighter with this new video from New West Records for Buxton’s “Boy Of Nine.”
The Boy Of Nine seven-inch shown in the video is of course available at fine local record stores, and online. Pick it up and nab a ticket to their record release at Fitzgerald’s on February 4.

“Nothing Here Seems Strange” Release Show
I’d just like to say that you’d be a fool to miss this show. On top of the stellar antics that are Buxton, I’d like to enter into evidence this video of Featherface performing ABBA’s “Fernando.”

A Sergio Christmas Thing
Days before Christmas, I happened to zip in to Cactus Music to nab a couple albums for my dad. Lo and behold, what should I chance upon finding at the counter but a limited edition Christmas album from Buxton’s Sergio Trevino, featuring appearances by Haley Barnes and Will Van Horn. I snagged it immediately, and let it delight my ears in the car for the rest of my shopping day.
While Christmas may have come and gone, and I believe the physical copies are sold out, the collection of tunes can (and should) be added to your collection thanks to the internet. Sergio’s posted them at his Bandcamp page, available for streaming and a scant five bucks will land you a download. Listen below, or go buy it from the site.
2012 Best New Artists - Music Artists to Watch in 2012 - Esquire
Buxton made Esquire’s list of New Artists to watch in 2012. Congratulations, folks!
Upcoming Releases
A couple recent conversations have revealed that there will be a Black Congress LP out around April, and that Grandfather Child’s LP on New West will likely be out in May.
The new Buxton album comes out in late January, by the way.
While traditionally a home for indie rock (and now likely more so for electronica and low-fi) it was acts hailing from the Southern states that took the crown and the crowd.
Take Robert Ellis, a lithe Houston virtuoso who harkens back to the days of Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson and Townes van Zandt, the days when country and folk didn’t have to be hyphenated to sit together in one sentence. Ellis played several shows this year, including sets at the Paste and New West showcases at the Living Room. His voice is clean and band booming; and you get the feeling that he incited a lot of “I didn’t think I like country, but… ” conversations at the night’s end.
Marissa Moss: Why the South Won (the CMJ Music Marathon, That Is)
Robert Ellis gets a nice mention in the Huffington Post for his recent CMJ appearances, including a surprise two-hour cover set (aka, what Houston is accustomed to calling Whiskey Wednesday). Buxton also gets termed a “southern breakout” and an “indie folk collective whose album Mumford and Sons probably have hidden under their pillows.”

Just wanted to hop in and say that whatever your Friday night plans are, I highly recommend hitting up the free show at Market Square Park tomorrow, featuring Buxton and Larry Sepulvado. Larry’s the father of Buxton member Austin Sepulvado, and it should be a great night.
