Buxton is playing a couple of shows with a great band by the name of The Donkeys. Fans of the television show LOST may know them better by the name Geronimo Jackson. Above is the poster for the Houston, TX show.
8/20 - Emo’s - Austin, TX
8/21 - Rudyard’s - Houston, TX
Relating to some recent prior posts here on H-Town Rock, Buxton will be making their next concert appearance in Houston this Sunday at Rudyard’s, with The Donkeys.
Rudz may be small, but I’m consistently impressed with it as a concert venue. It’s definitely grown on me.
For those of you that have never seen Buxton live, do it now. You’ll be certain to smack your forehead repeatedly while thinking, “How did I not know about this band?” Their next release, whenever it does finally come out, is going to be a fantastic album - one of the finest in Houston’s burgeoning recent discography.
The Donkeys, by the way, have a trio of Daytrotter sessions available for your listening pleasure. Head over and brush up on some tunes before the show.

Cake, Buxton Confirmed For First-Ever BestFest - Rocks Off
So, Houston Press’ annual Best Of Houston awards has now spiraled into a two-day music festival, appropriately called BestFest, on the weekend September 24 and 25.
The Press just confirmed that Cake and Buxton are two of the featured acts, with several more to be announced - likely this week. HTR has a hot tip on who a few of those names might be, but we’ll remain hushed until they’ve been confirmed.
Tickets for the festival will go on sale Friday morning at 10 A.M., and start at $25.
Buxton gots a Tumblr.
So mah band Buxton got a tumblr now. We’ll periodically post different things. Pictures, videos, songs, etc. Right now there is a video of a brand new song. That’s it.
Everybody go follow!

Buxton at Cactus Music
Buxton - Oh My Boy
While I’m recapping performances, here’s a pair of videos captured by Mr. Mark Austin at Cactus Music during Record Store Day. The above is my favorite new Buxton song, “Oh My Boy” and below you’ll find “Lynchburg Ferry.” Mixing it up a bit for the in-store, Jason Willis opted for a banjo instead of his usual electric guitar, providing the songs with an stripped feeling.

Signings Galore
Word has been rolling out over the past few weeks about several Houston artists signing to labels. That’s pretty cool, because it provides them with some additional support - and hopefully that means some funding to record and tour, as well as marketing and promotion of the music being made.
In news that was somewhat expected, Austin/Los Angeles based New West Records signed Buxton, Wild Moccasins, and Robert Ellis to deals. Given that George Fontaine, president of New West, is a partner in the re-launched Cactus Music, it wasn’t terribly surprising to see some of the prime talent plucked. These will be three-album deals for each artist, with Buxton’s upcoming Nothing Here Seems Strange released soon. Wild Moccasins’ Skin Collision Past will be re-released, with the four tracks of the Microscopic Metronomes EP included as well. Robert’s first album on the deal will be split between solo songs and songs with The Boys backing him.

ZenHill Records, the collaborative effort of Zenfilm’s W. Ross Wells and Sugar Hill’s Dan Workman, has been filling out their roster as well. Recently The Tontons, Roky Moon & Bolt, Peekaboo Theory, Craig Kinsey, and Kinsey’s Sideshow Tramps have all signed deals with the label. The Tontons have been in and out of the studio working on a new album, while Roky Moon & Bolt knocked out their upcoming full-length American Honey in a single day.
Space City Records also wrote in to announce that they’d added local crew Twenty Eleven to their roster. Their album Renewable Energy was recently released.
Congratulations to everyone! This is yet another step in the right direction for getting Houston music recognized on a larger level.
Magnolia City Mixtape: Buxton, Wild Moccasins Join New West Records
Newest Magnolia City Mixtape is up, and packed with news. I’ll pull a few of these bits out to highlight with individual posts, but go read it for yourselves.
Here’s that new Buxton tune over which we’re all doe-eyed. The vocals are a bit lost at moments, but this capture of Oh My Boy from the Houston Press Music Awards ought to give you an idea of why we’re in love with the song.
