Photographed and reviewed The Civil Wars at the Wortham Center on Friday night for the Houston Press. Check out the slideshow for more photos of the duo and the darling UK group The Staves, and read the full review over at Rocks Off.
Chris Gray Day starting NOW.
Find all the details in the link above. Head down to the Continental Club block at Main & Alabama, drop (at least) 20 bucks in the jar, and peruse the cool stuff for auction whilst taking in stages of bands. Should the donations actually exceed Chris’s medical bills, the rest of the money will go to the Houston Blues Museum. DO IT!
Last Night: Dir En Grey at House of Blues - Rocks Off
For the record, I thought this band was boring as hell. Certainly one of the least intriguing acts I’ve seen of late. But it made for some good photos, and the internet has seemingly flipped their lids in the comments, if that’s interesting to you.
Dig This: Vol. IX - Rocks Off
The latest installment of Dig This is now up on the Houston Press site. In it I discuss Cavernous, Chemistry, Drifter, Harts Of Oak, and Folk Family Revival.
Dig This: Female Demand, EndIsNow, Daniel Zen, Soulutionn, and Vivian Pikkles - Houston Music - Rocks Off
The latest Dig This is up at the Houston Press. Get hip to more local music. The list just keeps growing, as well.
Dig This Vol. VII - Rocks Off
Well, it seems that Young Girls is ending, like far too many good Houston acts do. Before that, they’ll open for Davila 666 on Saturday, though, so catch them while you can.
(Edit: Pete Tijerina chimed up to inform us that Young Girls is not breaking up, but rather taking a break to record. Hooray! Sorry for any confusion.)
The newest installment of Dig This features Western Standards, Dead Mineral, Young Girls, Eli, and Cast Away.
If you missed last week’s post, check it out to discover Peloton, Titan Blood, Coxcombs, Papaya, and Football, Etc.
Chris Gray Steadily Improving
We’re happy to report that Chris Gray, hospitalized last week due to an apparent heart attack, has been steadily progressing. As the Houston Press reports:
Houston Press Music Editor Chris Gray who has been hospitalized since Friday when he collapsed at a Metro light rail station on his way to work, suffering an apparent heart attack, has improved enough that doctors are talking about sending him to a rehab facility in a few days for physical therapy, his dad said [Tuesday].
We’re certain that the blog will pull through with another update soon, but for now follow Chris’ brother, @JohnSeaborn, on Twitter for more updates and some good laughs.

Dig This: Peloton, Coxcombs, Titan Blood, Papaya & Football, Etc. - Rocks Off
The newest installment of Dig This posted over at H-Town Rock today. Take a gander and learn about some more local music.
Chris Gray Hospitalized
Houston Press music editor Chris Gray was hospitalized after suffering a heart attack on his way to work this morning. According to his brother John, Chris is currently in an induced coma at Memorial Hermann.
As 29-95 mentioned, Chris is an “integral part of Houston’s music community.” Ian Wells of KTRU’s Local Show described him as “a good friend to our show, our station, our scene, and our city,” - an apt and understated account.
Please keep Chris in your thoughts and prayers, as we will. I’ll update with more information when I receive it.
- Marc
