New Bands Mikey & The Drags, Bang Bangz Debut Saturday - Rocks Off
I did Q&As with Miguel Ponce and Mario Rodriguez for the Houston Press. Click through to learn about what Mikey & The Drags and Bang Bangz.
If you missed it, my photos are included in Allison Wagoner’s wonderful review of the Girls Rock Camp Showcase At Fitzgerald’s on Sunday. I’m so very proud of all the ladies that come together to host this camp, and thankful that I could pitch in my photo skills to assist just a bit. On Friday I went to the camp and took promo shots for the bands, which was loads of fun. See more photos from Sunday night in the slideshow on the Press website.
Speaking of slideshows, here’s a few more shows I’ve shot recently for the Press.
Eels at Warehouse Live (2011.07.22)
Katy Perry at Toyota Center (2011.07.29)
Arctic Monkeys at House Of Blues (2011.08.03)
A-Blake Records Joins Cadre Of Local Labels - Rocks Off
Houston’s got yet another record label. The more, the merrier I say. Head on over to the Houston Press to read an interview I did with A-Blake Records, a new startup out of Deer Park featuring Pale, Jason Cassidy, and Them Island Bois.
For the record: Black Dog Records | 29-95.com
My For The Record series continues with the most recent installment focused on Black Dog Records. Black Dog is a two minute walk from Cactus and staffed by friendly folks, so make sure to pay them a visit when you’re in the area.
Bun B talks about his role as professor | 29-95.com

Part of the reason my posting was slow this week is that I did several interviews. Among them was this great chat with Bun B and Dr. Pinn, who are co-teaching a Religion & Hip-Hop course at Rice University this semester.

You may have seen a slightly condensed version of this in the print edition of this week’s 29-95. Unfortunately, due to some <strike>asshole</strike> copy editor, it was attributed to Andrew Dansby - a fine music journalist in his own right.

Anyway, check out the interview. It’s the first piece I’ve done for 29-95, with hopefully many more to come.

P.S. Here’s a photo I took of Bun B & Dr. Pinn.
