Photographed and reviewed The Civil Wars at the Wortham Center on Friday night for the Houston Press. Check out the slideshow for more photos of the duo and the darling UK group The Staves, and read the full review over at Rocks Off.
Last Night: Dir En Grey at House of Blues - Rocks Off
For the record, I thought this band was boring as hell. Certainly one of the least intriguing acts I’ve seen of late. But it made for some good photos, and the internet has seemingly flipped their lids in the comments, if that’s interesting to you.
Dig This: Peloton, Coxcombs, Titan Blood, Papaya & Football, Etc. - Rocks Off
The newest installment of Dig This posted over at H-Town Rock today. Take a gander and learn about some more local music.
Fat Tony came onstage around 10:30 p.m. and killed it, as per usual. He did that thing where he raps like he’s having a conversation with someone.

Last Night: Das Racist At Fitzgerald’s - Rocks Off
Like I said, we’re happy to have Allison chipping in over here at HTR. You should head over to Rocks Off and read her review of the Das Racist show on Wednesday.

Also, if you missed it I shot The Black Angels show at Fitzgerald’s two weeks ago. Craig’s review was quite good as well.

Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution: Proposed Houston Noise Ordinance Would Ticket Venues Without The Use Of Sound Meters
Like I mentioned over at my personal Tumblr, this is an important issue for live music in Houston. If you can, try to stop by City Hall tomorrow. If not, call or e-mail a City Council member and let them know that (a) this issue is important to you as a concertgoer/music lover, (b) handing out unchecked, unverifiable power to the police alarms and concerns you.

My new stuff is totally different, its nothing like what I’ve made before. It’s made using different instruments and tools. It’s like if you made a car out of wood - it’s still a car, but it’s made out of wood. I think it might be the best thing I’ve ever made. It’s not done yet. It should be done by January, but hopefully before then. I always have ideas of what I wanna do next. I like to work fast, the longer you spend working on shit, it’s just a waste. Just hurry up and finish the shit. It’ll never be perfect, it’s just gotta be close.
