Busy Kids CD release show with Something Fierce & The Ex-Optimists
This is in College Station, on November 18th. If you’re there, you should definitely go. What this means for everyone in Houston, however, is that The Busy Kids will soon have a CD available! Hooray!
The first line of “Empty Screens” may be “We lost control,” but this is a band that knows exactly what it’s doing, and has a whole lot of fun in the process.

Whoa! Something Fierce’s “Empty Screens” is NPR’s Song of the Day. How about that? It’s well deserved, if I may say so.

Writing Recap
April has been stupid busy for me, but I’m taking today to write some posts and prep some for the queue.
First, I wanted to alert everyone to some music articles that I’ve written recently for other publications, in case you missed them.
Magnolia City Mixtape entries for Houston Press: April 15 | April 22
The latest installment of my For The Record series at 29-95 covers Sound Exchange. Check it out.
I also did a Q&A with one of my favorite local punk bands, Something Fierce, also for 29-95.
In addition, I spoke with the folks now running The Meridian, which is turning into the Orchid Club. Gary Katz still owns the building, so realistically speaking, I don’t expect much to change with the place. Hopefully they prove me wrong.
And, as always, I’ve been shooting shows. If you’re into that sort of thing, you can see my photos in the following reviews/slideshows.

Houston punk band Something Fierce returns on April 12th with Don’t Be So Cruel.
David Cobb at Houston Calling reports that Something Fierce’s upcoming record will be coming out on my birthday. That rules. Click through to see what the band has to say about the album. Personally speaking, I can’t wait.

There’s a rather excellent show at Vinyl Junkie tomorrow night. Occult Detective Club is from Denton, while Something Fierce, Noguey, and The Busy Kids are all locals. Five bucks will get you in the door, where you can get your punk on, and even buy some records.
The Busy Kids feature Fierce’s Niki Sevven, and Noguey is rumored to have a Cop Warmth member in there.
