Need some shows to see in the near future? Check out this list of February’s shows from The Treaty Oak Collective. Brandon’s got some great stuff lined up, including a Co-Pilot appearance, and seven-inch release shows from American Sharks and Peloton.
Mark up that calendar and save those nights.

Last Night: Dir En Grey at House of Blues - Rocks Off
For the record, I thought this band was boring as hell. Certainly one of the least intriguing acts I’ve seen of late. But it made for some good photos, and the internet has seemingly flipped their lids in the comments, if that’s interesting to you.
This happens tomorrow night. Lords Of The Universe is a Black Sabbath cover band featuring Roy Mata, Jeff Poppe, John Adams and Dann Miller. They were originally supposed to play on New Year’s at the Proletariat once upon a time (in 2005), but it never happened.
Fat Tony came onstage around 10:30 p.m. and killed it, as per usual. He did that thing where he raps like he’s having a conversation with someone.

Last Night: Das Racist At Fitzgerald’s - Rocks Off
Like I said, we’re happy to have Allison chipping in over here at HTR. You should head over to Rocks Off and read her review of the Das Racist show on Wednesday.

Last Night: The Black Angels At Fitzgerald's - Rocks Off
Also, if you missed it I shot The Black Angels show at Fitzgerald’s two weeks ago. Craig’s review was quite good as well.

Mango’s Adds More Shows
Brandon Lemons, new booker at Mango’s, wrote in to give us some news. Not only have the following shows been added to the calendar, but also some changes are afoot at the corner of Westheimer & Taft.
Lemons is having a web designer redo the venue’s website, bringing it up to date, “calendar and all.” In addition, he writes that he’s convincing the owner to put in wood floors to make the sound better. That’s good news, people.
Shows
09/22: Jacuzzi Boys, The Wiggins, Titan Blood, Psychic Palms $TBA
09/30: Buxton, By The End Of Tonight, Cosmic Sound $8/9pm
10/29: Lords of the Universe, Indian Jewelry, Weird Party, Young Mammals $5/9pm
Should you not come out to see the Prairie Cadets on Saturday, please head over to Diverseworks for a their FUNdraiser, which has a pretty stellar lineup. On the bill are Wild Moccasins, former Houstonian Jana Hunter (whom I think will be performing a rare solo set), Brett Taylor’s sonic brainchild sIngs, one-man sonic army Jon Read as The Wiggins, and tunes spun by the excellent Brett Koshkin. Brett runs the Dirty Honey soul nights, which are full of tasty music.

Friday, September 2nd @ Rudyard’s (2010 Waugh)
with Black Congress and The Men
$7. 9pm.
This is going to be one hell of a show, certain to be loud and sweaty, and likely loaded with tattoos.
In my opinion, Black Congress and Weird Party are two of the better acts in town at the moment, and they’re fun to watch. I’m not sure how they’ll confine Shelby Hohl or Bryan Jackson to the stage. In fact, I’ll bet right now that you’ll find both of them breaking into the crowd.
I believe the poster is by Dann Miller.
