hasHBrown- The Devastation / Clarity (directed by Odiwams Films)
Woke up this morning to find a new video from Houston’s self-proclaimed Rap Mayor in my inbox. “The Devastation / Clarity” explores two tracks from the middle of hasHBrown’s Break Something album which came out late last year. If you missed it, head over to rapmayor.com and grab it. You can snatch the album for free, but I’d recommend at least dropping a tip in the jar in exchange for some of these well-crafted rhymes.
P.S. While I’m playing catchup here at HTR, take a peek at the video for “Heaven,” also off Break Something.

Make your day a little brighter with this new video from New West Records for Buxton’s “Boy Of Nine.”
The Boy Of Nine seven-inch shown in the video is of course available at fine local record stores, and online. Pick it up and nab a ticket to their record release at Fitzgerald’s on February 4.

Julys - Bowie (by MAGIC CHILL)
Up until recently, I’d figured that The Julys, like many of Houston’s talented bands, had faded away into the ether. Fortunately, that isn’t the case.
It’s my professional opinion that this band is worth your time, Houston. Fans of infectious indie pop should definitely clue in to their tunes, which range from jangly pop to a bit of Bruce to some Bowie-leaning notes.
According to my friend Dale, who bangs the ol’ skins for the band, there’s an EP on the way, due out in the next couple months. Expect a big release show on the horizon. In the meantime, check out this video for their track, “Bowie.”
It’s been well reported around the internet already, so you really shouldn’t have an excuse for missing this. But if you haven’t seen Funwunce Supergroup’s video for the LCD Soundsystem track Home, go watch it.
Admittedly, when we first saw the casting call asking for revelers, our hopes for the magnitude of the finished product sank. Really? Just folks partying?
Well, it’s certainly not just partying. It’s an amazing video, with a storyline and shot after fantastic shot that makes Houston look pretty darn good. Well done, Funwunce fellows, and we’re sorry we ever doubted you.

Here’s another video shot in Houston for an out-of-town artist. This track from 1990, off New Jersey hip-hop artist YZ’s album Sons Of The Father features several recognizable locations, including some rightfully referenced skyscrapers and an opening shot at the corner of Dowling & Texas.

P.S. If you feel like tipping us off to a video shot in town, feel free to click the ol’ Contribute link at the top of the page.
Lately we’ve had a few videos tipped to us that feature Houston in the background. This one from British rockers Inspiral Carpets, forefathers to Oasis and a host of other bands, has a selection of backgrounds from our fair city. You’ll catch Johnson Space Center and some of what appears to be Pasadena and the downtown skyline. The best reference is in the chorus, though:
Saturn 5
You really were the greatest sight
Stretching out on a summer’s day
Houston is calling me back to her
It’s going to be another day of abundant video content here on the blog. The Caprolites have dropped their official video for their song I Need A Lot.
We’d really like to see this band open for Dios. No, not Dios Malos, Dios. Someone bring that band to Houston, already.
